Tara is Rex's tennis coach and Michael's love interest in one of his two realities. In Awake, protagonist Michael Britten is living a double life. In one reality, the "Red Reality", his wife Hannah Britten is alive, but his son Rex Britten is dead. In the "Green Reality", Hannah is dead and Rex is alive. While coping with the loss of his wife in one half of his life, Michael becomes attracted to his son's tennis coach, Tara. Originally, Tara was intended to become a love interest for Michael in the green reality, but this idea was dropped when it was decided that to him, he was still with his wife.
