Elizabeth Santoro is a divorced mother and FBI profiler who spent approximately twelve years on assignment working the Gemini Killer case. Her specialized expertise on the subject earns her a promised book deal. Her conviction that the killer was a suspect she shot and killed puts her at odds with Britten (who wants to keep an open mind) and Bird (who nurses a certain disdain for the profiling profession.) She also notes suspicious conduct on Britten's part while she serves with the LAPD as a case consultant.
While in Los Angeles, she is abducted by a man in law enforcement uniform presumed to be the real killer. He scars her right forearm. The police intervene, scaring him off and transporting her to hospital.
